Help & guide

Quick guide

  1. 1Open ChichKey on your phone or laptop.
  2. 2Unlock with your fingerprint or face, or type your email and password.
  3. 3Type a few letters of the website in the search box at the top.
  4. 4Tap the copy button next to the password, then paste it into the website.

Signing in and unlocking

The first time on a device you sign in with your email address and your password.

After that you can turn on fingerprint or face unlock in Settings › Password & biometrics. From then on, one tap opens your vault. Your password always keeps working as a backup.

Saving a password

Tap Add on the main screen. Fill in the name of the website or app, your username, and the password.

There are two ways to save the password itself: the whole password, or a base part plus a short add-on.

Base parts and add-ons

Many people reuse one piece in every password, for example BASE_ or BASE_+, and change only a short bit per website.

Save that reused piece once as a base part. On each entry you then only fill in the add-on, for example HM for Hotmail. ChichKey shows and copies the complete password, so you never type the long part again.

You can have several base parts (one for work, one for private, an old one and a new one), and choose whether the add-on comes after the base (usual) or before it.

In Settings › Base parts you can add, rename or edit a base part, and let ChichKey make a random one for you in any length. Editing a base updates every password that uses it.

Notes

Every entry has a Notes field for PIN codes, security questions, customer numbers, or anything else you need alongside the password.

Notes stay hidden until you tap to show them, and they are locked away just like passwords.

Finding, showing and copying

The search box at the top filters your list as you type.

Tap the star to make an entry a favourite; favourites sit at the top of the list.

The eye button shows or hides a password, and the copy button puts it on the clipboard so you can paste it.

Sharing with the family

In Settings › Family you invite people by email address.

A viewer can look at the passwords but not change them. An editor can also add, change and delete entries.

Invited people accept the invitation from their own ChichKey account, so everyone keeps their own sign-in.

If you forget your password

First, add the family email addresses you trust in Settings › Recovery emails. Those are the addresses that will receive a code.

On the sign-in screen tap Forgot password and fill in your email address.

A 6-character code is emailed to you and to every trusted family address, so someone can read it out to you.

Type the code and choose a new password. All your saved passwords are still there.

The code only works for 15 minutes, only once, and after five wrong tries you have to ask for a new one. After a reset, fingerprint unlock has to be set up again on each device.

Changing your password

Go to Settings › Password & biometrics, fill in your current password, choose a new one and save.

If something goes wrong

If a screen looks stuck, close ChichKey and open it again.

If a bar appears at the top saying a new version is ready, tap Update now. It takes a second and nothing gets lost.

If fingerprint unlock stops working, sign in with your password and turn it on again in Settings.

You can always ask a family member with editor access to help. They see the same vault.
